Traditional shops
Hidden between the big shopping malls, international franchising and neon lights, looking carefully we can still find old traditional shops, that bring to our minds the idea of an ancient Lisbon.
The Lisbon of the XIXth century, with the “Armazéns Grandela”, the shopping time in Chiado, small stores selling fabric, seeds, codfish, cocoa and teas, where we can find everything we need with no queues or stress. Shops where the old man sat behind the counter knows every costumer by the name, like the Oculist of Chiado, that keeps the glasses that Almada Negreiros (a painter that lived in the mid XXth century) forgot to pick, or the Luvaria Ulisses, that has been selling gloves during summers and winters, for more than a hundred years.

Please note: I don't get any discounts or offers from the
shops by taking you there. They are chosen for their authenticity and for the interest of the products they sell. Normally we look from the
outside, and only get inside the ones you ask to.
