Porto & Douro valley, 3days
Porto is the second city of Portugal and is proud to be completely different from Lisbon. Porto has narrow streets, granite façades with decorated balconies and inhabitants that still great those that pass by. All the city, bathed by the Douro river, lives a cozy ambience where people talk without thinking twice and just like if they were in a small village. The first afternoon will be dedicated to explore this wonderful city, it's monuments and tasting a white and a red port, after a wine cellar visit. At night, enjoy your dinner in one of these small restaurants and remember: the dirtier the place, the better the food! After dinner relax and enjoy your Port in the Ribeira, the riverside neighbourhood declared as world heritage by Unesco, due to its uniqueness.
2nd day – Time to leave Porto and explore the Minho region: we'll start with Viana do Castelo, a small city in the riverside of Lima, and explore Santa Luzia mountain, from where you can get a breath-take view of the region.
Probably you've already heard about the black rooster in almost all souvenirs, and also about our pottery. Want to discover where all this comes from? The answer is Barcelos! Let's discover this unknown village that originated such a know legend and also visit some pottery craftsman. Since this region is also known for it's meat based generous meals and for it's green wine , if you're feeling hungry you should try them! After lunch we'll visit Guimarães, the proud birthplace of Portugal, as the first king of Portugal was born here. Guimarães is a cozy little town, all built in granite, the main stone of the region.
Before the sunset there's still time to go to the Douro valley, where the famous Port wine is produced and enjoy the unique landscape of slopes and vineyards: it seems that God passed with a comb around this area.
3rd day- After
breakfast we'll go to Peso da Régua, the main city of the area
where we'll visit the Douro museum, a unique experience to see and
understand the history of this widely know wine. The river is so
close that it's almost a crime to don't take a cruise! Let's get
onboard and go to Pinhão, seeing all this green landscape from
the river with a fantastic onboard lunch. In Pinhão we have to
visit the small train station decorated with 18th century
tiles, depicting the life of the region and then visit Tedo estate.
Quinta do Tedo has been receiving several prizes and is the first
certificated estate for it's eco-friendly and biological production.
All their worries with the ambience definitely get reflected on the
wine and this is one of the best Port wines you'll ever try.
3 days with no hurries or stress and nothing but the most beautiful landscapes, best food and best wine you've ever tried!
